art /art/ n offers us an opportunity to feel and think beyond the efforts of our daily routine.

This blog postdates the launch of the Dictionary (we were somewhat busy then I seem to remember), but I thought it was worth a quick look back at some of the events we had – Cambridge University at the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH), Cambridge again at the Festival of Ideas, then Westminster Arts Library in London, the Stanley Picker Gallery at Kingston University, and finally at Clapham Library. Then in December we had a couple of pop-up exhibitions that the Dictionary participated in: Five Years: My Brain Hurts A Lot with Art Language Location at Guest Projects; and as part of the artists-in-residence show at Reading College.
Thank you to all who came and joined us, and fired up the debates on 'What is art?'. And here's looking forward to the next iteration at South Hill Park in April. art /art/ n (neg) not a mirror held up to reality; but a hammer with which to shape it. Thank you for all the wonderful feedback about the New Dictionary, including a lovely review by Egidija Čiricaitė for Collective Investigations. Please feel free to add to the social media chatter! We have a Facebook page, a Peculiarity Press website feature and we would love to get a few reviews (good or bad) on our Amazon page. We hope to add a Twitter page soon (once we can think of a snappy Twitter handle that does not exceed 15 characters...)
art /art/ n (interrog) have you ever seen or heard something so beautiful it stuck with you for the rest of the day?
Thanks so much for supporting our crowdfunding campaign for A New Dictionary of Art last October. It was a great success and both hardback and softback formats are now into their second edition. Now, after a pause for breath, Robert Good and I are excited to be starting our Spring campaign to get the New Dictionary into bookshops and art galleries around the country.
We'd love to hear from you, so if you have any ideas, comments or suggestions please do let Robert know. |
